Official announcement:

It’s indeed very nice to see that Canon is actively fixing all bugs being detected and reported. All customers appreciate a company that makes efforts to fix and improve their current products.

But… Guess what!? Yes, we keep on requesting Canon for improvements on EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 7D.

Why? Because they CAN be improved (a lot). Many improvements are even a “kid’s game”, other require more work.

There are LOT of Canon users and customers asking those improvements since long ago (in some cases even since 2 years ago). Do not believe us, just do a research on forums, blogs and websites.

As always we post a reminder link to the List of Fixes & Improvements. Please check it and spread it for the benefit of all Canon users.

Some of those ideas and request listed there (collected from many hundred of professional and serious amateurs around the world) were taken by Canon and implemented on later but MUCH cheaper cameras (Panasonic took many ideas too, more seriously than Canon and did even a better job in their implementation).

If you want to get deeper and know more about the potential of Canon cameras that is not officially exploited by the manufacturer, please check The Hidden Potential of 5D Mark II and Magic Lantern Firmware Wiki. Do an internet research too, you may get surprised.

By the way, if you plan to buy a new camera, lens and/or flash, keep in mind there is a GREAT PROMOTION ending soon. You can save hundred of dollars when buying those items. Click here for more details.

There is an additional $100 instant rebate promotion for EOS 60D and EOS 7D ending soon too!.

Canon PowerShot G12 Digital Camera

This is one of the best (if not the best) compact cameras available on the market today. It is solid, metal made (you can feel the big difference compared to other compact P&S cameras), with full manual controls (along with lot of automatic modes like most P&S cameras). It has a great image quality and LOT of great features (including HD video recording and HDR photography shooting mode).

You can shoot full manual, partially auto or in full automatic mode.

We love this little gem; you can carry it on your pocket everywhere and still have lot of great features (including articulated display, HD video capturing, 5x Optical Zoom with Stabilizer, etc) found on higher level, much bigger and much more expensive cameras (like DSLRs).

Image quality is great for this class of camera, and it’s fully featured. If you want a GREAT compact camera for less than $470, you should consider this one!

There isn’t any rebate on this specific item, but since it is so nice, we decided to include it in the list. It is highly recommended.

Some features:

  • 10MP CCD Image Sensor (less megapixel count, much better image quality and less noise)
  • DIGIC 4 Image Processor
  • 1280 x 720p HD Video Capture (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, MOV file format)
  • 2.8″ Vari-Angled LCD (Articulated Display)
  • JPEG and RAW File Image Capture
  • Lens: 28mm-140mm (35mm equivalent) with Hybrid IS (5x Optical Zoom)
  • Optical Image Stabilization
  • Stereo Sound for Video
  • Manual Exposure Control
  • Macro shooting
  • HDR shooting mode & more.

Please check the Full specifications and reviews for more details.

Acer Aspire AS5334-2598 15.6″ Notebook

This is not a high-end notebook. But it is a bargain!

You can buy one for only $349.95 and use it for your home or office daily tasks, browse internet, listen to music, burn CD/DVDs, etc., everything on a big 15.6″ HD wide screen.

Check Full specifications here. Offer ends 12/31/2010.

As previously posted some days ago in our article EOS 60D 5 Test in 1, Mr. Amila C. Kumarasinghe from Sri Lanka has recently posted a very nice and interesting video test made with the new Canon EOS 60D.

One of the comments he sent us was about the improved performance of the 60D related to overheating during long sessions.

He told us: “last days I had a recording with 1hr and 45mins continuously. Camera (EOS 60D) didnt get overheat. Thats a good point. In my experience we can’t use 7D for 30mins continously, they get overheat. 60D does great job. (Basically my country is little Warm that means normal temperature range is 30-35º C in my area. . . .)”

That indeed is a very interesting point to keep in mind, that lot of filmmakers and videographers will really appreciate.

Additionally, this new camera has VERY interesting buil-in RAW and Post Processing functions for still photography (see Specifications below).

EOS 7D vs. 60D

If you are planning to buy a new camera and you are choosing between these two models (both APS-C sensor cameras), the first thing you should keep in mind is: Are you mostly interested in still shooting OR in movie/video recording?

To make it very brief:

60D Features Request

  • Update #1 – Canon 60D Manual
  • Canon EOS 60D Features Request
  • Additional Comments

The english user manual for the new Canon EOS 60D is now available for download. You will notice that there is no AF microadjust in the manual.

Download it from here:  Canon EOS 60D Manual (.PDF)

This camera looks very promising indeed, and great to use as a second body or complementary to the 5D Mark II (keeping in mind the 60D is a crop sensor HDSLR).

Despite the AF micro adjustment is not necessary at all for movie recording, we hope a firmware update will add this feature for still shooters.

The new Canon EOS 60D seems to be a very promising camera for the entry-level segment, and even as a second body for many serious amateurs or professionals.

Canon Rumors has posted today an article about something we do also support and want to share with the Canon community:

The 60D Needs AF Microadjustment

No Microadjustment in the 60D

I just learned today that there is no AF microadjustment in the 60D. There is a great thread on the forum about it.

Read more here.

As with every Canon DSLR we encourage all users to request to Canon to give the full potential of their cameras to their customers.

You will find the Canon contact information on the sticky post at the main page of this blog.

We support all possible improvements that CAN be achieved via Firmware Updates, like lot more that are still possible to the Canon 5D Mark II and the rest of the HDSLR line (check Canon Firmware Updates). Some features are essential, and many are even very easy to implement.

Soon we’ll publish an article based on a very interesting comment posted by a reader. Stay tuned.
