COMMENTS & TESTS

As previously posted some days ago in our article EOS 60D 5 Test in 1, Mr. Amila C. Kumarasinghe from Sri Lanka has recently posted a very nice and interesting video test made with the new Canon EOS 60D.

One of the comments he sent us was about the improved performance of the 60D related to overheating during long sessions.

He told us: “last days I had a recording with 1hr and 45mins continuously. Camera (EOS 60D) didnt get overheat. Thats a good point. In my experience we can’t use 7D for 30mins continously, they get overheat. 60D does great job. (Basically my country is little Warm that means normal temperature range is 30-35º C in my area. . . .)”

That indeed is a very interesting point to keep in mind, that lot of filmmakers and videographers will really appreciate.

Additionally, this new camera has VERY interesting buil-in RAW and Post Processing functions for still photography (see Specifications below).

EOS 7D vs. 60D

If you are planning to buy a new camera and you are choosing between these two models (both APS-C sensor cameras), the first thing you should keep in mind is: Are you mostly interested in still shooting OR in movie/video recording?

To make it very brief:

If you are a photographer and require improved AF system and fast burst rate, then Canon EOS 7D is the option to consider.

If you are mostly interested on movie/video recording, then the Canon EOS 60D is a great choice.

Both cameras share many features, but the 60D shows some advantages for movie/video recording at a lower price. It doesn’t have the weather proof magnesium alloy body of a 7D, but at the same time that allows longer video recording time without overheating (according to comments mentioned above). 60D has Manual Audio gain and the BIG benefit of an articulated LCD screen, just to mention some differences.

Of course other features, specs, and aspects should be considered too.

Remember that both cameras share the same battery type, but not the memory card type. Please check the pictures and full specifications below.
